Mai Tai (left)
A famous tropical cocktails, created in the mid-1940s. Known as the “queen of tropical cocktails,” there are various accounts of its creation, but its name is believed to have been given when restaurant owner Victor J. Bergeron offered the cocktail to a Tahitian friend, who praised with the Tahitian word for “great,” “Mai Tai.”
Blue Hawaii (center left)
A cocktail originally proposed by Harry Yee, chief bartender of the Waikiki hotel Hilton Hawaiian Village. It is said to have been inspired by the theme song of the musical Waikiki Wedding, sung by Bing Crosby.
Mauna Kea Star (center right)
A Le Marquis original cocktail. Hawaii’s prominent mountain Mauna Kea is known across the world as a prime spot for stargazing. Being near to the equator, both the stars of the southern and northern hemispheres are visible from the mountain. This short cocktail was made with Hawaii’s well-known export acai in the image of the night skies.
